Artificial Intelligence vs Human a comparative study for Exam-Preparation
With globalisation, more and more students are going abroad for foreign education or for better studies. With this opportunity, the pressure of cracking competitive exams are also increasing. From generations, it has always been the humans who have assisted the students with exam preparations. “Artificial Intelligence for exam preparation” is the new norm. EdTech and general education are being reshaped with the advent of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. One of the pioneers in introducing Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is AccioIbis.
Writing and Speaking are important assessment criteria for any English language proficiency Exam, be it IELTS or TOEFL. These are also the most difficult sections, compared to Reading and Listening. Traditionally, candidates have taken the help of human experts to build their skills. Recently, with the advent of technology, Artificial Intelligence has also turned out to be a choice. The question is which one is better? To answer the question lets deep digger.
For various competitive exams like IELTS, TOEFL, GRE etc Artificial Intelligence is playing an important role for helping students with exam preparation.

What is the process for evaluation between AI and Humans
There are two aspects in the entire preparation process. First is the Proficiency of the candidate. At the two ends of the spectrum, any candidate can be classified either as a Beginner or an Advance with multiple in-between stages. A candidate would start the journey as a Beginner and slowly proceed to an Advance level. The second aspect would be Actions or Activities. There would be four activities that a candidate has to perform. Firstly, one has to learn the strategies and the guidelines which one has to follow to produce an effective piece of writing. The second step would be to apply these strategies and practice. Third, you have to constantly measure the skills and Fourth, improve upon your weakness. Hence one has to adopt a Plan, Do Check, Act (PDCA) method.
Why an AI in the first place?
Depending on the Proficiency stage, the level of complexities involved in these Activities would vary. In the Beginner stage, Activity levels would be simpler. As the candidate learns and the Proficiency level improves, the complexities of Activities increases. Thus, there would be activities which can be automated or predicted, as they can be mathematically modelled. Hence it is better that, they are performed by an AI application. This will free up Teachers to focus on more complex and abstract aspects that can’t be statistically predicted and hence unsuitable for AI. The below diagram tries to map who should ideally be a better choice to perform the activities.

A powerful tool for teachers
So, for teachers adopting an AI application has two big advantages. One, they can manage a greater number of candidates as they have to focus only on specific areas. Secondly, they can offer more effective and customised teaching to candidates. Similarly, Candidates adopting a combination of AI and Human-based method would get significantly benefitted as it would not only be perfect but also the fastest.
